Microsoft and NVIDIA open Surface Laptop Ultra pre-orders and ship agent containers
Microsoft says its agent containment layer is now generally available in Windows 11, and NVIDIA RTX Spark laptops are open for pre-order. Malaysian prices and dates are not published, and the headline speeds are peak figures.

In brief
- Microsoft announced on 7 October 2026 that Microsoft Execution Containers (MXC) are generally available in Windows 11. The layer lets organisations set which files and networks an AI agent can reach.[1][3]
- Surface Laptop Ultra, built on NVIDIA RTX Spark with up to 128 GB of unified memory, opened for pre-order at a US$2,599 starting price. Shipping begins on 16 October 2026.[2][3]
- NVIDIA also previewed DGX Station for Windows. No price or ship date is given, and Microsoft names no Malaysian availability for either product.[3][2]
What Microsoft and NVIDIA announced
Microsoft and NVIDIA used a Windows and Surface event in San Francisco on 7 October 2026 to present local AI agents as the next job for the personal computer. Microsoft published two announcements the same day, one on Windows and one on Surface devices.[1][2][3]
Three items matter most. MXC is now generally available. RTX Spark laptops are open for pre-order. DGX Station for Windows was previewed. Each is a company claim at this stage, and none has independent testing yet.[1][2][3]

The agent containment layer
Microsoft says MXC is operating-system infrastructure that lets agents run safely and persistently in the background. Organisations define which files and networks an agent may access, and Windows enforces those policies at runtime. Microsoft links MXC to its Agent 365 and Intune tools so that agent activity can be governed.[1][3]
NVIDIA quotes Microsoft executive Pavan Davuluri: "We are building these primitives directly into Windows, so agents can be secured, observed and governed." General availability describes the software, not its record. No outside security test of MXC is cited in either company post.[3][1]

RTX Spark hardware, prices and dates
Surface Laptop Ultra has a 15-inch touchscreen and the RTX Spark chip, which pairs a Blackwell GPU with up to 6,144 cores and a Grace CPU with up to 20 cores. Microsoft lists up to 128 GB of unified memory and up to one petaflop of AI performance. It says the laptop can run models above 120 billion parameters locally.[2][3]
The laptop starts at US$2,599 and ships from 16 October 2026. A Surface RTX Spark Dev Box costs US$5,999, ships in November and is sold only through Microsoft.com in the United States. NVIDIA says RTX Spark compact desktops follow in November, with systems from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, MSI and Gigabyte.[2][3]
DGX Station for Windows is only a preview
NVIDIA previewed DGX Station for Windows as a deskside system on the GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra chip, with 748 GB of coherent memory and up to 20 petaflops of FP4 compute. NVIDIA says that is enough for models up to a trillion parameters, run locally.[3]
The post gives no price, no ship date and no region, and invites readers to sign up for news. Until those arrive, this is a product direction rather than a purchase option for any Malaysian buyer.[3]
How to read the performance claims
One petaflop and 20 petaflops are peak figures at FP4, a low-precision number format. Real speed depends on the model, memory use and software. Our reading is that the 128 GB ceiling, not the petaflop figure, decides which models fit on a laptop.[3][2]
Both companies publish these figures themselves. We found no independent benchmark of RTX Spark, MXC or Surface Laptop Ultra, so treat every speed and capacity claim as unverified until reviewers test shipping units.[3][2][1]
Why Malaysia should care
Microsoft says Surface Laptop Ultra sells worldwide, but names no Malaysian price, retailer or date. At Bank Negara Malaysia's 7 October selling rate, the US$2,599 starting price is about RM10,600 before tax and local pricing, which is our arithmetic.
Malaysian SMEs
Local models avoid cloud fees, but a laptop near RM10,600 is a large outlay.[2][4]
Practical move: Wait for Malaysian pricing and independent reviews first.
IT and security teams
MXC offers policy control over agent files and networks.[1]
Practical move: Pilot it on one test device before wider use.
What Malaysians can do now
- IT managers: read Microsoft's MXC documentation and test the containment policies on a non-production Windows 11 device before allowing agents near company files.
- Buyers: ask Microsoft and local retailers for Malaysian pricing, tax and warranty terms before pre-ordering an imported Surface Laptop Ultra.
- Developers: compare your model's memory needs with the 128 GB ceiling, and wait for independent benchmarks of shipping units.
