Utopia Group runs 35+ companies and 173 business units — aircond service, medical equipment rental, catering, motorcycle rental, F&B, construction — with 400+ staff across Malaysia. Almost all of it still runs on WhatsApp threads, paper forms and one person's memory.
Your job is to go into one of those businesses and change that. Not to write a proposal about it. You sit with the operators, work out what is actually broken, build the tool yourself, put it into production, and stay until the staff are using it without being reminded.
Because these are our own businesses, you deploy in your first week instead of waiting six months for a client to sign. That is the part of this job you cannot get at an agency. New to the FDE role? Start with the full guide.
Not a requirements call. You sit next to the aircond scheduler while she assigns 14 jobs across three vans, and you write down every workaround she has quietly invented.
You scope it yourself and build it with AI-native tooling — Claude Code, Codex, Cursor — on Next.js, TypeScript and Supabase. No ticket, no hand-off, no waiting on another team.
Straight to production on Vercel, with the real data and the real staff. A demo on your laptop counts for nothing here.
This is the part most engineers skip. You stand behind them on day one. Where they hesitate, the design is wrong. Where they open WhatsApp instead, you lost.
Hotfix live, same afternoon. Then keep watching the weekly-active number until the tool survives a month without you defending it.
No computer science degree required. We hire on evidence that you can ship.
Non-negotiable. Everything else can be learned on the job.
This is what separates an FDE from a good developer.
How we build at Utopia. If you have not tried these, you can learn them in your first month.
We would rather lose you here than three months in. None of these are character flaws — they are just a different job.
Published up front. Your level is set by what you can ship on your own and how many businesses you can hold at once.
RM3,500 – RM5,500
per month
Shadows a senior FDE into one business. Owns small tools end-to-end — a claim form, an attendance report, a WhatsApp reminder — and sits with the staff who use them.
RM5,500 – RM8,500
per month
Owns one or two businesses outright. Scopes with the operator, builds, deploys to production, trains the staff, and holds the weekly-active-user number for their tools.
RM8,500 – RM12,000
per month
Runs deployments across several businesses at once, sets the pattern other FDEs copy, and decides what gets built into Boss OS versus what stays a one-off tool.
A link, a repo, a screen recording — anything real that somebody other than you has used. No cover letter. WhatsApp is fine.
30–45 minutes on what you built, what broke, and what you did about it. No whiteboard algorithms.
You come in and sit with one of our operating businesses on a real problem. Paid. You will find out whether you like this work before you commit to it — and so will we.
Level and number set against the published ladder. No haggling theatre.
Not a CV first. One link to something real, and we will take it from there.
